Queer Young Cowboys

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Queer Young Cowboys is looking for cerebral and raunchy projects that explore the sex lives of queer people in an intimate, honest way.

Things that turn us on: Beards. Tattoos. Road trips and float trips. Armpits. Bicycles. Activists. Punks. Graffiti artists. Hippies. Body hair. Micro-brews. Dirty fingernails. Beach bums. Ass cracks. Feet. Basketball shorts. You don't have to include any of these things, we’re just getting to know you.

We publish fiction, non-fiction, poetry, photography, art, comics, and that project that you're working on right now.

In the past, Queer Young Cowboys has focused on stories about gay men. This is no longer the case. We are looking to more accurately reflect and represent the word "queer" in all of it's messy, beautiful forms.

We do not police identities.

We're open to all media and narratives, but projects must queer sexuality as a central, core theme. Romance is welcome but not required. Sex isn't always about love, but sometimes it is. We're looking primarily for original, unpublished works. We will consider publishing previously published works if they excite us enough.

We believe in being fair to writers and artists. We are artists. Payment for solo works is entirely royalty based; Queer Young Cowboys will split any and all profits generated 50/50. We are not interested in making more money from your work than you do. Publishers that do can go fuck themselves.

Short work submissions will be paid with contributor copies if the project is in print unless a small, one-time payment is negotiated in advance.

We do allow for simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere. Also, it helps to be familiar with our approach and aesthetic, so please visit our website to see the work we've published so far.

We try our best to get to submissions in a timely manner. This isn't always feasible, and we appreciate your patience.

We are a small outfit, but we're really interested in seeing what you're capable of.
